How Handlush Got Started

Handlush was founded in 2022 by Zheng Ming, out of a pretty ordinary annoyance that turned into something bigger. Zheng had just moved into a new apartment and noticed how quickly the handles around his home — cabinet pulls, appliance handles, door handles — picked up scratches, fingerprints, and general wear within just a few months. He looked around for a simple cover or protector that actually fit well and didn't look like an afterthought, and came up short. Most of what he found online was either poorly sized, made from materials that cracked within weeks, or clearly designed without much thought for how people actually use their hands, doors, and appliances every day.

That gap is where the idea for Handlush came from: a small, focused product line built specifically around handle protection — nothing more, nothing less.

Why This Product, Why This Company

Zheng didn't come from a manufacturing or design background — his prior work was in logistics, which honestly gave him a strange advantage. He understood sourcing, shipping, and the practical side of getting a physical product from an idea to someone's front door. What he didn't have was a network of contacts in soft-goods manufacturing, and that turned into the first real obstacle.

The early months were rougher than expected. The first few sample batches didn't hold their shape after a couple of weeks of daily use — the material stretched out or lost its grip. There were a few rounds of back-and-forth with manufacturers where sizing templates didn't line up with common handle dimensions, and more than one shipment of prototypes had to be scrapped entirely. It wasn't a smooth, fast launch. It took close to a year of testing, adjusting, and asking early customers for blunt feedback before the product felt ready to put a name on.

Zheng has talked openly about wanting to quit more than once during that stretch — mostly during the stretch where three separate material suppliers didn't work out and the budget was getting tight. What kept the project going was a small group of early testers who kept saying the same thing: this actually solves a problem we didn't think was worth solving until we saw it done right.

The Team Behind Handlush

Handlush is run by a small team based in Pennsylvania. There's no large office or big marketing department — just a handful of people who split their time between product development, customer service, and day-to-day operations. Because the team is small, most customer emails are read and answered by someone who actually understands the product, not a scripted response system.

What We Believe In

We built Handlush around a simple idea: small, everyday objects deserve a bit more thought than they usually get. Handles are something almost everyone touches multiple times a day without noticing them — until they're worn out, sticky, or start to look tired. We wanted to make something that fits well, holds up under regular use, and doesn't need to be replaced every other month.

We also try to be upfront about what our products can and can't do. A handle cover isn't going to transform your home, and we're not going to pretend otherwise — it's a small, practical fix for a small, everyday annoyance, and we'd rather set that expectation clearly than oversell it.
